The True Sportsman Club was started as a trout planting club back in the 1920’s. It’s members hiked to streams in the Sierra Nevada Mts. east of Jackson, California carrying 5 gallon milk containers full of fingerling trout which they released into the tributaries of the Cosumnes River. Today it is a small private shooting club with 275 members. All members of the True Sportsman Club are also members of the National Rifle Association. The club has a range officer home, 25 yard handgun range, two trap fields, a 50 and 100 yard rifle range, clubhouse and an archery area.
The True Sportsman Club is managed by a slate of elected officers and a executive committee which oversee the clubs activities, maintenance and improvements. The True Sportsman Club is a 501-C7 non-profit organization. Volunteers of True Sportsman club put on handgun, rifle, muzzleloader and shotgun fun shoots throughout the year which are open to the public. On Wednesday evenings in June and July the TSC sponsors a Summer Trap League open to youth, women and men of all ages and experience levels. The club sponsors a youth clay target program for school age children from 6th thru 12th grades which is active February thru June. On the third Sunday in May the club offers a shooting clinic for the novice woman interested in learning about firearms and the shooting sports. For further information on TSC events that are open to the public see the “Calendar”.
The object of the True Sportsman Club is to encourage organized rifle, pistol, shotgun and archery shooting among citizens of the United States resident in our community, with a view toward a better knowledge on the part of such citizens of the safe handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship. It shall be our further object and purpose to forward the development of those characteristics of honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, team play and self reliance which are the essentials of good sportsmanship and the foundation of true patriotism.
